What is a grease trap?

A grease trap is a plumbing device that cuts off fat, oils and grease (FOG) before they reach sanitary pipes. Large amounts of FOG can clog up your sanitary line, resulting in costly repairs or the installation of a new line. When FOGs are poured down a drain, they will cool down and harden. As time goes on, the FOGs will build up in certain areas and restrict the flow of water and other liquids. Eventually, the line will become blocked. When this happen, the repairs can be costly.

Oftentimes, a speciality truck is needed to hyrdojet the line to remove the clog. In some instances, the buildup can be so great that it can blow the line. In other cases, a plumber must break up a concrete floor in order to replace the line.
